Karlsruher SC

Karlsruher SC were humiliated in the last round, losing with 6-0 against Eintracht Braunschweig. That was their third defeat in five games this season, and they are yet to record their first draw.

Make no mistake, Karlsruher SC are a strong side in the second division and will most likely battle for Bundesliga promotion again this season. One of the reasons for their bad results so far is probably because their players are still thinking about the heart-breaking Bundesliga promotion playoff match against Hamburger in June. They just barely missed a Bundesliga promotion after conceding a last minute goal.

Anyhow, Karlsruher SC remains as one of the strongest home teams in the 2.Bundesliga. They have lost just three home games in the last three seasons. They also have a very good home record against Union Berlin. Karlsruher SC have never lost a home match against Union Berlin, recording six victories and just two draws.

One big problem for Karlsruher SC this season is scoring. They did not create many chances in their matches played so far, and managed to score just five goals in five league games.

Union Berlin

Union Berlin started this season very badly, and are still without victory in the 2.Bundesliga. They lost one match against SV Sandhausen, and drew four games against Fortuna Dusseldorf, Kaiserslautern, 1860 Munchen and RB Leipzig. Each of their last three games had ended in draws.

Union Berlin appointed a new coach last week and that is Sascha Lewandowski, who was in charge of Bayer Leverkusen partnering Sami Hyypia a couple of seasons ago. He should change the fortunes of the team this season, but he is facing some problems with injured players before this game.

28-year-old standard defender Fabian Schonheim suffered a muscle injury last week and is not available for selection. Also the 22-year-old attacking midfielder Maximilian Thiel injured his thigh in the last game against RB Leipzig and is out of selection. He scored one goal for Union Berlin so far this season.

Union Berlin have won just three of the total of sixteen head to head duel played against Karlsruher SC in the 2.Bundesliga, including the last season`s 2-0 home victory.
