Liverpool in talks to sign Neven Subotic and Andrea Ranocchia

Liverpool are in discussions over deals to land Borussia Dortmund centre-back Neven Subotic and Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia, according to the Daily Mirror.

Subotic – a mainstay of Reds boss Jurgen Klopp’s defences at former clubs Mainz and Dortmund – has been linked with a switch to Anfield ever since his old boss was appointed.

Klopp previously claimed he did not intend to sign any players in the January transfer window, but recently indicated his central defensive injury crisis might force him into the market.

Today’s report suggests that Klopp is now talking to Dortmund about bringing in Subotic. The 27-year-old Serbian centre-back has fallen down the pecking order this season.

The Reds are apparently also in discussions with Inter Milan over a loan deal for Italy international Andrea Ranocchia. The former Genoa man, also aged 27, has played 10 games for Roberto Mancini’s side this season and is tipped to move on.

Tiago Ilori’s 12-month loan at Aston Villa has been cancelled by the Midlands club, so he is also in contention.
